The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Presently, I serve as the President of the Westhill High School Alumni Association. Our mission is to support the interests of Westhill, while also maintaining the relationships among past, present, and future students.

Founded in October 2008, we’re a new organization with relatively modest goals. So far, we have created a widely distributed alumni newsletter, crafted bylaws, and assembled a stellar executive board—rife with diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

High school, arguably, is a very pivotal time in one’s life. Most students begin and end their journeys without fully grasping the gravitas of their experience. Taking the next step forward into college often promises even greater challenges.

Our organization recognizes the challenges and pressures that accompany Westhill students, as they make their way into the world and eventually come of age. As such, our biggest first-year initiative is the Westhill and Proud Scholarship.

The Westhill and Proud scholarship will be rewarded to a graduating, college-bound Westhill High School senior in the amount of $500. To date, we’ve received some generous donations from alumni, and we’re deeply appreciative to all those who have demonstrated their support.

We’re aware that asking for money in the midst of a recession might sound strange to some. At the same time, anyone who has paid for college knows the difficulty of having to work his or her way through school or shop around for student loans.

Even so, we’re not just getting involved and helping out as a sign of charity.

We understand that giving back to the high school from which you graduated is also a reinvestment in our own futures: as more students graduate and venture off to college, the school’s notoriety and prestige increases.

Without question, the success of raising money for this scholarship will not only alleviate the cost of paying for a student’s schooling, but it will also signify our commitment to this year’s graduating class—as well as the future graduating classes at Westhill.

In essence, the Westhill and Proud scholarship is a gift—but it’s a gift that keeps on giving.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Westhill and Proud Scholarship, please write a check or money order to the Westhill High School Alumni Association.

Because the Westhill High School Alumni Association is registered as a non-profit entity, all donations are tax-deductible and should be sent to the school’s address at 125 Roxbury Road Stamford, CT 06902.
